Outreach Coordinator
The
Outreach Coordinator is responsible for serving as director of off
campus projects with the city of Ithaca, through community centers like
GIAC and Southside. He/she is responsible for contacting outside
organizations for co-sponsorships via e-mail or telephone. He/she will
also be responsible for setting up a community service program under
BSU’s name to be held in the fall and perhaps in the spring for
follow-up. He/she is responsible for collecting a database of community
leaders and the ways in which they can be reached.
Traditional Events Coordinator
This
person will be in charge of planning and executing all of the “Dinners
and Brunches With My People” to be held every other Friday unless
designated otherwise by the executive board. He/she must also contact
faculty members who can assist in opening these events to all members
of the BSU general body. He/she must also plan and execute a Faculty
Reception at the beginning of the fall semester. He/she will also help
to plan the delegate’s meetings each month along with the co-presidents.
Campus Liaison (2)
These
members will be responsible for BSU’s projects within the greater
Cornell community. They will spearhead projects with other umbrella
groups, campus wide events, campus publication, and they will stay in
contact with OMEA, the State Programs Offices and the Multicultural
Admissions Office. They are also in charge of overseeing and directing
programming during Black History Month.
Publicity Chair
The
Publicity Chair is responsible for advertising through all possible
venues and promoting all BSU events, as well as creating programs to
disseminate at events. The publicity chair is responsible for updating
the BSU calendar with all BSU events. The publicity chair is
responsible for designing, creating and distributing all BSU
paraphernalia.
Community Chair
The Community Chair
will work closely with the Outreach Coordinator to work in the Ithaca
community. He/she is responsible for contacting outside organizations
for co-sponsorships via e-mail or telephone, as well as helping the
treasurer with funding letters. He/she will be responsible for bringing
the BSU scholarship to members of the Ithaca High School Community.
He/she will also serve as the Teaching Assistant for the BSU leadership
class.
Freshmen Representative
The freshmen
representative acts as an apprentice to the organization learning the
procedures and structure of BSU. The freshmen representative acts as a
freshmen perspective to the organization and will be assigned small
roles such as attending meetings for other organizations.

Senior Co-president
The
Senior Co-president of BSU must have been the junior co-president for
the year prior to election. In the event that the junior co-president
cannot become president, another executive board member will be allowed
to run for this position, or it will be opened to the general
community. He/she will be responsible for running executive board
meetings every week as well as the monthly delegates meetings. He/she
will be responsible for helping the treasurer to raise funds for the
BSU scholarship to be given in the spring. The senior co-president will
work closely with the administration as well as other student groups to
keep them involved in black student interests, by creating a setting
for organized dialogue with the President of Cornell and other key
members in the administration. The senior co-president will manage the
list serve and forward relevant e-mails to members of the BSU E-board
and general body. He/she will also be in charge of carrying out the BSU
Leadership Development Class with other upperclassmen.
Junior Co-President
The
Junior Co-president of BSU must have been on the executive board at
least one year prior to election. In the event that nobody is eligible
to run for this position from the executive board, the election will be
opened to the general body. He/she will be responsible for collecting
and adding names and e-mail addresses to the list serve. He/she will
assist the senior co-chair in managing the list serves and forwarding
e-mails important to BSU. He/she will be responsible for reserving the
room for the monthly delegates meeting. The junior co-president will
also be responsible for working with and informing the administration
of the interests of black students in the general body. He/she will
also be in charge of planning, designing, and facilitating an event or
program to honor members of the black community and create dialogue
amongst members of the greater black Ithaca community.
Treasurer
The
Treasurer will be responsible for completing the budget packet at the
beginnings of each semester for programming purposes. He/she will also
have jurisdiction over the BSU accounts with CFCU and SAFC. He/she will
also be responsible for raising money for the BSU scholarship to be
given in the spring to a Cornell student, as well as Ithaca High School
students. He/she will be responsible for raising money for any trips
and outings that BSU has as well as any money transactions. He/she must
keep a portfolio with the current balances and money transfers.
Secretary
The
Secretary will be in charge of taking minutes for all meetings. If
he/she cannot attend the meetings he/she must have a proxy to take
minutes for him/her. He/she is responsible for keeping a portfolio with
typed minutes from all of the meetings, as well as sending them out
over e-board list serves for those who cannot come to the meetings.
He/she must also send out minutes for the delegates meeting each month
to the BSU constituency. The secretary must a compile a list of groups
under BSU’s umbrella and take attendance at the delegates meeting. The
secretary is in charge of the BSU archiving project by documenting all
BSU events throughout the years as well as making sure other
organizations under BSU’s umbrella are archiving.
